DFI day 5 – collaborative sites

Today has been my favourite day so far learning to create engaging visual learning on google sites. I expanded my knowledge on using multi-modal and multi-textual learning and how this accelerates learning by using engaging ‘hook’s that inspires students to want to delve into learning, and empowering learners and their whanau by being clearly visual and easily accessible. I chose to join the group that created our own learning sites on the topic of ANZAC day as this is coming up soon. Creating our own site has greatly increased my confidence in using google sites and how easy it is to add many different options for sharing learning with my students. I look forward to sharing my ANZAC site with my learners as a follow up activity in independent activity time in week 2. And I am excited to create more sites for our inquiry topic coming up!

Whaea Stephanie’s Day 2 of DFI

Day 2 was just as intense as day 1, still full of fantastic learning and getting to challenge myself to try out new things. First we learnt about R.A.T for effective practice. Then we learnt about saving and tidying up book marks. To solidify my learning it really helped that we had 2 opportunities to create a google meet, share screen and change between tabs while sharing as well as recording with a buddy later in the day. Also, I love that you can do so many different things when creating an event in your calendar including adding the location that connects to google maps, create a google meet, add documents and google notes and several other things. Google Keep will be very useful for both tasks to complete at work (or I can use google tasks for this!) and lists for shopping/reading/websites at home. I look forward to going over my learning and notes from both days and practicing my new skills this term! Whaea Stephanie’s Day 1 of DFI

Today was my first day of the DFI online course. I am looking forward to what I will learn here! Today we learnt the history of Manaikalani since it started and how learn, create, share was developed and how it is shown to improve learning for akonga. Some useful things I learnt today that I look forward to using professionally are how to change/limit access to folders within my google drive that have shared access, adding shortcuts into folders to save time, using smart chips in google docs, and setting up google groups for emailing groups of parents or colleagues. To use with my learners I have created my first bitmoji that I can personalise slides with and I will check out edpuzzle to create activities or quizzes from videos for my class. In my personal life I will start with tidying up and organising my bookmarks. Today was jam packed with learning and I look forward to our next session!
